Abstract | The current shortcomings of preservice teacher education in the area of international education are addressed in this paper. It is emphasized that prospective teachers must develop a perspective consciousness, a sense of global dynamics, awareness of emergent human goals, and an awareness of ethical problems in a global context. A discussion is offered on the dynamics of relationships between national societies and the international society. A consideration of the future of teacher education explores ways in which to develop a curriculum that replaces a society-centric approach to the social sciences with one in which a world system perspective will be taught.
